I am Naomi Threadgill. This is where I write about beauty the way I actually think about it, which is slowly, and with a lot less certainty than the internet seems to require.
I started keeping these notes in 2021, privately at first, mostly because I kept noticing things I had no one to say them to. Why a lipstick I loved for two years stopped feeling like mine. Why I avoid a particular mirror on tired days. Why a colour that suits my sister does nothing at all on me. None of these are questions with a product at the end of them, which is probably why nobody was writing about them.
What this is not
It is not a review site and it is not a routine to copy. I am not going to tell you what to buy, partly because I do not know your face and partly because I have watched myself buy the right thing for the wrong reason often enough to distrust the format. There are no ratings here, no scores, no ten best anything, and no photographs staged to look like a result.
How a piece gets written
Something happens, I notice it, and then I sit with it long enough to work out whether I actually believe what I first thought. Most of these were written more than once. Where I changed my mind mid way through, that usually stays in the piece, because the changing is generally the interesting part.
What I write about
Eight things, and they have not changed much. Finding my look. Colour and undertone. Glow and radiance. Slow mornings. Beauty and mood. Inherited beauty. A changing face. Quiet rituals. Some of those are practical. Most of them are not, quite.
Where I am unsure
Often. I say so in the writing rather than smoothing it over. A piece that ends on I still do not know is more honest than one that arrives at a tidy conclusion I do not hold, and I would rather leave the loose end visible.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, or reads as advice when it was meant as one person thinking out loud, tell me. The page gets fixed with a note saying what changed rather than quietly rewritten. Write to [email protected].
